Miracles don't happen everyday. i thought I'd had a personal one when my boss, Lisha, told me we would be going to assist one of her friends at this swanky fashion week party. we were both seamstresses to a degree. i had grown up mending my own clothes and she loved fashion but couldn't read... design schools tend to only take those who can fill out proper applications.
we were lifted to The Park. i don't know if i ever felt such beautiful upholstery. it was enough for me not to gape at everything around me. we went in and the models were doing final fitting before the show. we were shown the needle and thread and went to work. quick and nimble fingers. after a hard 3 hours we were done. Lisha and i wandered around the backstage area quiet as kirk mice waiting for the show to be over. it was of course a success and we were invited to the after party.
as parties went this one was subdued. mostly people stood talking to each other while loud music threatened to drawn out every word. but the food!!! the food was incredible. i have a mostly processed/noodle/oats diet. Little bits of this and that on platters. every time i saw a waiter i had to ask what it was they were holding. the best was the chicken puffs. real chicken is so different than cloned or artificial. i ate maybe ten. Lisha had to ask me to stop making a pig of myself.
Lisha left out first. I was right behind her when i was stopped and arrested. they said it was on conspiracy to sell pictures of pieces that hadn't been in the show to the competition. At first i tried to explain that i literally only saw what was in front of me which was this seasons collection.
I was held in a station for three days before they said sorry and let me go. they took my clothes, cut the lining of my bag, tossed my apartment and my cubby at work. All for some clothing designs.. the world is mental.
Next time i'll remember to eat all the chicken puffs...

Malcolm
Where have I beend? Hurricane Malcolm was a bit worse than expected. I have been stuck on New York main for the last few days. There was an emergency at the shop, so I stayed as late as I could helping put the inventory into water safe containers, securing the furniture, covering the windows, checking for any exposed crevices basically. The alarms sounded earlier than we thought they would.
I bunked with the new guy, Emir. He lives in this cute little micro dorm a block away from the shop. He must pay almost as much as I do for his shared kitchen shared bathroom place. Micro dorms are very big with transplants from the continent.
I stopped by the corner store and bought water, food, candles and a toothbrush. Emir shared nothing with me over the time I spent in his micro dorm. He didn't even really talk to me.
The space was 8 * 7. So it was cramped. His bed took up a lot of the space and I slept on the floor. He gave me one sheet and one towel. The alarms sounded for 4 days. The day we were able to leave I checked the light rail conditions and went to the shop. Emir had strict rules about talking before 10... So he didn't come with.
All shop employees must show up at the shop after a bad storm. The floors were a bit wet from foot prints but otherwise all was well.
My apartment when I got back was fine. The first 2 floors weren't so lucky. At the height of the storm these floors were flooded. People tried to get to higher ground but calamity ensued. People died. Some were killed in the mayhem....

Acid Rain
Today was my day off. Its also Wills' (not his real name) last day at the apartment. His work is taking him elsewhere. I didn't bother to ask where because Wills likes to be dramatic and secretive.
It rained all day today. After checking the chemical warning level of the rain, mild acid, we grabbed our rain gear and headed to the Cities Edge. The area is mostly abandoned because of how close it is to the water and the reckless way the tides have been rising over the last ten years.
Wills took pictures. I just watched, when i was younger it was fine to go outside in the rain without an umbrella or rain gear. I tried to imagine what it would be like to not have to put on the thick poncho, gloves and boots everytime it rained.I can't remember what it was like.
Acid fog got thick faster than it should with a mild acid content. the forecast must have been off. We were only out for a couple of hours.

Sticky Funky Gum, NY and other clarifications Wills feels I should make
Wills (not his real name) feels i am too blase about what people know and do not know about living in the NY Soveriegn. Apparently there is a whole world out there that assume Sovereign is something that it is not. He also feels I should explain a bit about certain laws and other imperatives. What Wills wants, Wills get... Bastard.
First and foremost, I must say Wills is not semi-famous, he is selectively renowned.
Secondly, in many countries, including NUSA and SUSA, Sticky funky gum is illegal to buy and sell. But then so are other things like tobacco, and stimulants with too much caffeine. Here in Sovereign, we can kill ourselves if we want, with anything we ingest, but if its in smoke format it is illegal.
Lastly, transport. From the outer regions (formerly known as boroughs) we can get to Sovereign proper by light rail, boat, bridges. The islands are smaller but not by much. we have storm walls and watch the tides. We don't have a gondola system. New York didn't turn into Venice and we were able to retain some of the underground systems.
With that said, my coworker got a case of the shakes so bad that the manager noticed. He's on his way to forced vacation and breath tests for the rest of his working career. So, victory for my mundane ass.

Wills
My friend Wills (not his real name) decided to go all "Your home is my home" on me. He showed up at my sweet little 12 x 12 abode with a case that took up half of my walking space and made himself very comfortable. I find it a complete boggle that he'd even bother to come all the way out to the boonies to visit let alone stay. My neighborhood could be worse, but the apartment spacing can be a little phobic. plus the tide was way up today. Moon and gravitational pull and all that, but a hard wave brought water lapping up an extra half a block.
Wills is semi famous for taking photos of cities under the sea. People are intrigued by the past and all the things that were lost to the sea. So, he dives and he finds the these awesome images. He would probably take pictures of anything but this is what pays the bills fastest.
Last night we went to this wicked underwater rave. He found it. i ended up having a bit of sticky funky gum, spaced out looking out the windows and dancing with my reflection. It was located in the upper west end. Its been years since i went free running in the ghost towns areas. We entered a low building and went down 6 floors. low lights and loud music. It was like a taste of heaven in a triple enforce loft.
Still hung over, about to catch the light rail for work. So much for mundane.

Mundane.
I was late to work today. I can usually make it in on time, I always make sure to leave a bit early just in case the light train is delayed. Well, I jump on an express bullet, straight over and through to west midtown but due to "atmospheric inconsistencies" the solars didn't charge well enough for the train to go full speed. They must have taken it below 75% power because we snailed it. 20 minutes in the smog. At least the O2 filter worked.
i got there maybe 5 minutes before my charming co-worker. He called me mundane. right, i'm mundane. Meanwhile i see him on his cycle 5 days a week. His life range is so limited. I always see his hands shake toward the end of his shift. He has the the trems. You can smell his fear of reality. Addicts are the ultimate mundanes because they all think they're so special but they barely eek by.
Mundane? Like I care.
